A piece of history (Levels One, Four and Five)
Enjoy a who’s who of acclaimed actors pictured in backlit photo boxes in the Wurtele Thrust and McGuire Proscenium lobbies, as well as ghostly images of past performances
printed on our walls and ceilings.

Blue Wall (Level Four Lobby)
Architect Jean Nouvel wanted to give patrons a peek into the action backstage, hence this
glass wall. Peer through it for an occasional view of our stage crew working, and see the
expansive scene shop’s entrance.

Amber Box (Level Nine)
Officially dubbed the Citizens of Minnesota Overlook, this lobby with amber windows
provides a near 360-degree view of this historic neighborhood, including the river, Gold Medal Park and the downtown skyline.

Endless Bridge (Levels Four and Five)
Perhaps the most noteworthy feature of the Guthrie is a cantilever that extends 178 feet
from the face of the building. Check out the postcard effect of the windows, directing your eyes to specific attractions in the landscape.

OUTSIDE

Jundt Terrace (Levels Four and Five)
Despite its name, the Endless Bridge does come to an end and it is magnificent. Step
outside, take a seat and enjoy one of the most spectacular views in the city. Experience a
bird’s-eye view of the falls, the birthplace of Minneapolis.

Playwrights al fresco
Who says you can’t judge a book by its cover? Step outside to the Guthrie’s western exterior to view majestic photos of Tyrone Guthrie and seven playwrights whose greatest
works have graced our stages and inspired generations of theatergoers.

Take a Walk over the Stone Arch Bridge, or Climb the Hill next door in Gold Medal Park for stunning views of the Guthrie.

Visit the Mill City Museum 2 pm – 5 pm only!
Show your KCACTF badge and enjoy FREE General Admission to the Mill City Museum from 2 – 5 pm.  Enjoy learning about the flour milling industry, the Pillsbury dough boy, and fun facts about the heritage and history of Minneapolis. 10-Minute Play Festival 2015

Friday, January 23, 2015, 2:00 p.m.

Guthrie Theatre - Dowling Lab

The TEN-MINUTE PLAY FESTIVAL is a forum to help student playwrights develop their new work. These Concert Readings are the culmination of a process that begins with a blinded adjudication coordinated by the NPP team of Region II. Each selected play is then assigned a faculty director, a student assistant director and a student stage manager who work closely with the playwright in conjunction with student actors who are cast at the festival. The collaboration is to encourage revision of the work to better explore the world created. The reading is rehearsed for three hours during the week of festival, performed and given a response from festival special guests. Please enjoy!

Best Western Hotel Wi-Fi

1/21/2015

If you are staying at,  or otherwise spending time at the Best Western Nicollet Inn Hotel,  please note the following about their Wi-Fi Service:

As you may have noticed, that service has been somewhere in the neighborhood of 'spotty'--unable to access, slow 'traffic' speed, intermittent on-and-off the system. I have spoken with them several times over the last forty -eight hours.  Here are some conclusions and strategies we have discussed--

-In short,  their system has been overloaded with more users than their original capacity was set up for.  Since they are,  largely,  a 'business traveler's' hotel,  you can understand why this is.

-What they have done-- Yesterday they had people from their cable/web provider come in,  and expanded their 'load capacity. ' My  most recent testing indicates that 'access' is now much improved,  but 'speed' is still not lightning fast.

-Here's what we/you could be mindful of in consideration of your fellow festival goers and hotel patrons--1) can you reduce your use and/or time on line?  (especially during peak times... mid-morning,  late afternoon,  evening until Midnight).  2) here are some simple and not too painful strategies for reducing usage A) if you have more than one Wi-Fi device, please turn off the Wi-Fi on one/
s you are not using, B) If You Leave The Hotel,  And Leave Device/
s Behind, Please Turn Off Wi-Fi Or Power Down The Unit (Also Saves Your BATTERY!)  C) If Your  Facebook Or Email Needs Can Be Met In "10 Minutes From Now " Rather Than "Right NOW" Consider Doing So At the Ames Center Or At NORMANDALE CC, since they both have free and good-functioning Wi-Fi.

If we can all try to work together on this,  service will be better and if people have an immediate need or emergency,  access will be more available.

Thank You!
Tom Woldt
Region V Web Manager (and best western 'resident')
