Region 5 welcomes students to participate in a variety of stage management experiences. The two main events are “Stage Manage the Festival” and the National Stage Management Fellowship. THESE ARE SEPARATE EVENTS WITH UNIQUE SIGN-UPS. Students can participate in one or both of these events depending on the eligibility criteria listed in the descriptions below.
STAGE MANAGE THE FESTIVAL
Stage managers of all experience levels are welcome to take part in this event.
Students gain practical experience by stage managing a Festival event. Assignments, instructions, and expectations will be provided at an orientation meeting Sunday evening. Throughout the week, you will work your event. Later in the week, students will have the opportunity to meet and chat with professional stage managers, ask your questions, and get some feedback.

NATIONAL STAGE MANAGEMENT FELLOWSHIP
Eligibility
We CELEBRATE all the diverse and innovative work in the nation in the areas of Design, Technology, and Management.
All work created in 2024, either in class or for a campus stage is eligible this year to participate in the National Stage Management Fellowship and will be considered for national honors and awards.
A team of theatre stage management respondents will serve as selection panelists and respond to the projects.
To be eligible, students must:

To be eligible, students must:
- Have stage managed or created a stage management project at their home institution in 2024.
- Be a bona fide student in 2024.
- Be registered for and attend the Regional Festival to showcase their project and participate in response sessions.
How To Participate
- Fill out the entry form and submit a Google Slides presentation (guidelines below) of your work.
- Display your work at the festival (guidelines below) and receive feedback from responders.

All presentations will be limited to 12 slides

- Slide 1: Title Slide. Please include:
- Your Name
- Event/Play/Piece title
- Playwright’s Name
- Slide 2: Statement Slide. Please include:
- Letter of Intent: a statement of your view of the “stage manager’s approach” that includes the following information:
- a brief statement about how you approach stage management
- why you wish to participate in the regional festival
- your future goals as a stage manager.

- Slide 3-11: Supporting materials slides. Please include work that gives a thorough presentation of the scope and complexity of the project stage managed. Choose pages that show off your strongest work. Supporting materials that have proven most useful include combinations of the following:

- actor/character breakdown
- performance & production reports
- checklists
- calendars
- rehearsal schedule
- daily schedule
- tech schedule
- sign-in sheets
- callboard materials
- contact form
- emergency contact form
- photos from the show

Remember!
- Do not include the name of your school on any of your slides and try to remove as much as you can from your other documents.
- Do not include any personal information (yours or that of your cast and crew) on your supporting materials. Be sure to block out phone numbers, email addresses etc. That is private information and is not to be shared.
- Slide 12: Closing Slide. Please summarize your experience working on this project. Choose one or two of the following questions to assist your thought process.
- What challenges did you encounter while working on this project? How did you overcome them?
- What did you learn about yourself as a stage manager from working on this project?
- What excites you most about your future as a stage manager?
Important! After you have created your Google Slides presentation, you will need to create an embed code for inclusion in the expo entry form.
In your completed google slide presentation:
- On the file menu select "File".
- Select "Publish to Web".
- Select "Embed".
- Set the slide size to "Medium (960x569)".
- Leave the "Auto-advance slides" to the default of "every 3 seconds".
- Select the "Start slideshow as soon as the player loads" checkbox.
- Select the "Restart the slideshow after the last slide" checkbox.
- Select the "Publish" button.
- Copy the code displayed in the text window for inclusion in the expo entry form.

Festival Display Guidelines
- Each student is required to bring his or her prompt script/production book(s) from the entered production or project.
- The prompt script should be the genuine book the student used during the actual production, if realized.
- Your binder should have your name and the name of the production, including the playwright’s name visible.
- A sample of contact paperwork will be accepted in lieu of the original.
- The prompt script should consist of all of the production's paperwork; these should include, but are not limited to:
- The “Blocking Script” and the “Calling Script,” as one or more books, with blocking and cue-calling notation.
- Rehearsal and performance notes, as presented to the production/design team.
- Schedules, including rehearsals, tech rehearsals, etc.
- Pre-show/post-show checklists, shift schedules, scene breakdowns, etc.
- Forms, schedules, lists, and plots.
- Important/necessary emails and communications.
- Please do not include the name of your school or any personal cast/crew contact information.
- Remember to credit your research and photos where possible.
- If the production is an official “Invited Festival Production” at the regional festival, a photocopy of that production's prompt script may be substituted for the original, along with an explanatory sign, at the stage manager's discretion.
- Prompt scripts will be exhibited as part of the regional “Design Expo." Stage managers, unlike their design counterparts, do NOT prepare a display along with their prompt scripts. The prompt scripts will be available for examination by respondents and festival attendees.
Stage Management National Recognitions
One student will be chosen from each region to participate in the National Festival.
