DIRECTING

Coordinator, Cory Johnson, johnsoncorinnes@sau.edu
Welcome to the KCACTF Directing Initiatives. Below, please find links to the individual directing events.

One of the many aims of KCACTF is to nurture the next generation of stage directors.  To attain that goal, there are several opportunities for young directors at the Region 5 Festival to foster their growth as a director no matter their experience level.  Below is a description of all directing opportunities and a recommendation based on experience level.

FACULTY

Mentor a student director in the concert reading of a ten minute play:  Faculty members are needed to mentor student directors as they prepare for the 10-minute play festival.
Six ten-minute play production teams (consisting of student director, stage manager, actors and faculty mentor) will:
  • Collaborate on-line in pre-production preparation prior to the Festival.
  • Work together in-person at the Festival through the audition, casting, rehearsal process.
  • Present their work as part of the 10-Minute Play Festival.

Faculty Directing Series in Workshops:
Consider sharing your knowledge by offering a directing workshop at the festival. Faculty and graduate students who are interested in leading a workshop should fill out a workshop proposal form.  Some possible topics might be:

The challenges in directing a Shakespeare play (or Shaw, Chekhov, Beckett, etc)
Creating interesting pictures/composition on stage
How to work with and incorporate dramaturgical work into a production
A forum on rehearsal processes
Working with music directors and choreographers
