Student Opportunities

The KCACTF/LORT ASPIRE Leadership Intensive is designed to cultivate a new generation of artistic and administrative leaders with a focus on engaging Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and members of other underrepresented groups.

KCACTF offers a wide range of opportunities in Design, Technology and Management for students of all experience levels. Events at the festival include The Expo, Costume Parade, Portfolio Review, Stage Crew Olympics, and Stage Management.

One of the many aims of KCACTF is to nurture the next generation of stage directors. To attain that goal, there are several opportunities for directors at the Festival to foster their growth as a director no matter their experience level, including the SDC Directing Scenes and Directing Intensive.

The Dramaturgy initiatives include opportunities to showcase your work from your home institution as well as engage with fellow artists to create new work. We encourage all dramaturgs to initiate artistic relationships across disciplinary and institutional lines.

The Institute for Theatre Journalism and Advocacy (ITJA) was established to assist in elevating the level of arts criticism and to provide writers the opportunity to grow at the same pace as the artists whose work they review and interpret.

​The KCACTF National Playwriting Program (NPP) is dedicated to supporting student playwrights in the development of their original work for the stage, with dramaturgical and performance opportunities that emphasize respect for the written word and for the playwright's contribution to the theatrical process.

The Region 5 Festival offers a variety of opportunities for performers, including the Irene Ryan Scholarship Auditions, Devised Theatre Project, and Musical Theatre Intensive.
