DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGIES
A major element of our annual festival is the Design & Technologies Exhibition . The Design & Technologies Exhibition provides opportunities for students, faculty and staff to share work from all areas of theatre--many realized projects, some "paper" projects.
Presentations may include sketches, ground plans, fabric swatches, light plots, research, prompt books, technical and craft projects. During the “Walk-thru” at the end of the exhibition students receive a response from our guest design respondents.
The exhibition is divided into two general categories: National and Regional.
Each project you bring to the festival may be entered in only ONE category (either National OR Regional). You may, however, enter numerous projects, each one in its own category. For example, you can enter your (participating entry) lighting design for "Hamlet" in the Barbizon OR the Regional Design Expo, but not both.
Remember, it is to your advantage to be present and attentive at the open critique session; not only for your own work but also for the critique of other projects. Receiving a measured and well thought-through response and hearing the opinions and suggestions of professional designers is much more important for a young designer than winning an award. We recommend that you have someone take careful notes during your own presentation and response for later review. It is difficult to concentrate on what is being said when in the throes of presenting and responding to questions.
Contact John Paul if you have questions/concerns.
NOTE: Guidelines for all national awards are posted at www.kcactf.org.
