STUDENT DRAMATURGY AWARD

The Student Dramaturgy Award is divided into two general categories: the LMDA/KCACTF Student Dramaturgy Award (also referred to as the National Award) and the Region 5 ATHE Student Dramaturgy Award (also referred to as the Regional Award)

Each project you bring to the festival may be entered in only ONE category (either National or Regional).  However, you are not limited in the number of projects you bring to the festival.

Whether you enter in the National or Regional category, the following guidelines apply to both:

1. To enter, you must be either an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at least part-time at the time of the creation/completion of the project that is being submitted for the award.

2. A faculty mentor at your school must be able to vouch for your work on the project.

3. You must hand-deliver your project to the regional festival, appropriately display the project during the specified date and time, and be physically present during the respondents’ oral feedback.  Your projects will be displayed on a table in the Design Exhibit portion of the festival.  Your project must be received any time Sunday, Jan. 20 from 6-7:30 pm or Monday, Jan. 21 from1-2:30 pm.

4. You are highly encouraged to attend any workshops dealing specifically with dramaturgy.

5. The regional festival, its hosts and volunteers are not responsible for items lost or stolen from the display area or its environs.

6. All projects should include as much documentation of process as possible. Specific criteria and suggestions can be found on the national website. (www.kcactf.org) Link to "Students"

7. All entries will receive an oral response from one or more Festival Special Guest Respondent(s) with expertise in Dramaturgy based on the criteria found on the national website.  The response session is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 23.  Dramaturgical workshops will be scheduled Monday and Tuesday.

So how do the National and Regional Awards differ?

You are eligible for the National Award if you served as the dramaturg for a production or workshop during Festival 40 (January-December 2007) and your school participates in KCACTF.  If you are selected as the recipient of the Region 5 National Award during our regional festival in January 2008, you are automatically invited to participate in the National Festival in April 2008 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

You are eligible for the Regional Award if you served as the dramaturg for an unrealized production or for a class project.  The winner will receive regional recognition during the Awards Ceremony, January 2008.

TO ENTER EITHER CATEGORY:

1. You are NOT required to send your project in advance.

2. You ARE required to submit no more than a two-page, typed letter no later than December 15, 2007(sent electronically as an attached word document to Beate Pettigrew, Student Dramaturgy Coordinator at bpettigr@jccc.edu) which covers the following:
