KCACTF Region V - National Stage Management Fellowship

Any stage manager from a participating or associate production is eligible for the National Stage Management Fellowship (regardless of whether they have been nominated by a respondent or not). The student must have stage managed said production during the “Festival 40” year. (January 2007-December 2007)

Region V will nominate one student stage manager, who will be invited to the national festival, held at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, in Washington DC this April.

One or more respondents from outside Region V will review materials, provide an oral response session and make Region V’s nomination.

Students who wish to participate but do not wish to be considered for the National Fellowship Nomination are welcome. These students should, nonetheless, complete the process outlined below.

REGION V STAGE MANAGEMENT FELLOWSHIP GUIDELINES
Student stage managers must complete the following process:

  1. A letter of nomination from the director of the production is REQUIRED to enter this fellowship. This letter should address:
    1. The student’s competency and demeanor during the entire production process. It should also include affirmation that the student stage manager was, at the time of the production, either:

a. An undergraduate student registered for at least six semester or equivalent quarter hours;

b. or a graduate student registered for at least three semesters or equivalent quarter hours;

c. or a continuing part-time student* enrolled in a regular degree or certificate program.

If the director of the production is unavailable, a letter from the Theatre Department Chair may be substituted.

Undergraduate, graduate, and continuing part-time students must be matriculating and pursuing a degree at the time of the KCACTF official production response.

  1. Approach Statement: A statement of the stage manager's stage management approach, including any particular challenges during the nominated production and how these challenges were addressed and resolved.
  2. Letter of application from the student stage manager nominee.

    The above materials must be submitted, by email, in (MS Word format), to the Stage Management coordinator no later than January 1, 2008
    .
  3. The prompt script from the entered production. You should bring the prompt script with you to festival. It will be included in the Regional Design Expo area for display. Please do NOT ‘fix up’ or ‘pretty-up’ your script and/or paperwork. You should bring the script(s) you actually used for the production. You may include production photos, which may be mounted to a display board. If you choose to display photos and/or other materials, it does NOT need to be elaborate, simply representational of the show. Do not mail/send your prompt script! Bring it with you to the festival.
