3rd Annual Stage Crew Showdown

It’s back! Region V will be presenting the STAGE CREW SHOWDOWN again this year for Festival 40! Preliminary rounds will take place on Sunday evening and Monday afternoon of the festival, with the finals held on Monday immediately following the Irene Ryan Semi-Final round. Winners will be announced at the festival award ceremonies later in the week, culminating with the official passing-on of the “Golden Wrench” trophy.

SPECIAL NOTE: This year’s newly revised schedule will include preliminary round sessions on Sunday night, January 20, as well as Monday afternoon, January 21.  Among other things, this will allow more potential for participation by Irene Ryan participants. 

THE EVENT

This year’s Showdown events will include some combination of the following:

• Costume Quick-Change: Change into a male and female costume consisting of shirt/blouse, pants/skirt, shoes & socks, tie/scarf and costume prop items.
  
• Border Tie: Calculate and cut tie-line to equal lengths and tie a border with a predetermined fullness onto a stage batten.
  
• Stage Weight/Prop Placement: Move stage weights to a predetermined location and set up a simple stage set-up consisting of props and furniture items.
  
• Knot Tying: Tie correctly 4 or 5 knots commonly used/found on the contemporary theatre stage. A bowline WILL be one of them. All competition knots will be announced and posted at the registration check-in desk for the event.
  
• Light Hang/Focus: Safely and correctly hang, circuit, gel, gobo and sharp focus a typical Source Four® lighting instrument

TEAM MAKEUP/PARTICIPATION

Teams will require four participants and all four must be bona fide students (graduate or undergraduate.) Each team must designate a team captain and a faculty/staff sponsor/coach.

Only one team from each school will initially be accepted for the competition. “2nd” or “3rd” teams from one school should register and will be added to a waiting list. If spots remain open after the initial registration period, or if cancellations occur, teams on the waiting list will be offered the open slots.

REGISTRATION

The registration procedure will be on-line again this year with a January 14th deadline. A faculty/staff sponsor must be listed with each team’s registration. Register soon--the early bird gets the tie-line (and a place in the 2008 Showdown!)
