GUIDELINES FOR KCACTF ORIGINAL PLAYS
If you have entered your ORIGINAL play in the January 2009 Region
V Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival which will take place in
Lawrence, KS from January 18-24, 2009, you
will need to submit your scripts and
synopsis of the play electronically and in hard copy to the KCACTF Region V
Playwriting Chair, David Crespy by MONDAY,
OCTOBER 27, 2008
This would include ANY original script written by students,
faculty, or guest artists entered as an associate or participating entry in
Winter or Fall of 2008. Non-student original scripts are eligible for the David
Mark Cohen Award and Musical Theatre Awards.
Your ORIGINAL play will be eligible for any number of the Michael
Kanin Playwriting Awards, but ONLY if you email
an electronic version of the script and
a synopsis as either an MS Word, RTF (Rich Text Format), or PDF file no
later than MONDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2008 and
provide me with four (4) bound copies of the script, so that I can mail all
the scripts and synopses to the national festival for consideration.
Each script submitted must be accompanied by a detachable title page with the writer's name, snail-mail address, e-mail address and phone number clearly printed. The script itself should include a blind title page (with the title of the play only) and also a page specifying the setting and the characters’ ages, genders and descriptions. Please allow a week to ten days if sending your entries via First-Class US Mail. Entries must be received by Monday, October 27, 2008. Scripts received later than this date, or not correctly blinded will not be read.
The full listing of the Michael Kanin Playwriting Awards may be
found at: http://www.kcactf.org/,
go to the “Students” tab at the bottom of the page. See also the Kanin Playwriting Awards “Cheat
Sheet” available here, provide by former national Playwriting Chair, Gary
Garrison.
You are welcome to revise your play after your production and send
in a revised version of the script by MONDAY,
October 27, since the Kanin Playwriting Awards are based on a reading
competition.
