National Critics Institute

The National Critics Institute (NCI) provides an exciting opportunity for students with strong writing skills and a passion for theatre to learn the art and craft of critiquing live performance. Students do not need to be theatre majors and may, in fact, come from other disciplines such as English or Journalism.

For information on the format of the Institute, please link to the National website at http://www.kcactf.org

Information can be found under the “Student” link under “O’Neill Critics Institute”.

Nomination/Application Process

Faculty from supporting institutions must nominate NCI student participants. To nominate a student, faculty members should send a letter of nomination to Dr. Robert Hubbard at rhubbard@nwciowa.edu.  The letter of nomination should include a brief rationale of why the faculty member believes the student would benefit from participating in NCI. Additionally, nominated students should personally submit a message with their name, school, home mailing address, phone number(s), along with a play review of a live production to rhubbard@nwciowa.edu. Both the letter of nomination and student writing sample must be received by December 16, 2009.  For additional information, please contact Robert Hubbard at the above address.
