Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts/Technical Director/Designer/Shop Supervisor

The School of Arts and Humanities invites applications for a tenure-track position to start in August 2009.  This position requires a M.F.A. or equivalent terminal degree required for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor; near completion of M.F.A. or equivalent terminal degree acceptable for initial appointment at rank of Instructor.  Academic or practical background in theatre arts with experience in technical theatre.  Training and/or experience in scenic design, sound and lighting design, AutoCAD, rigging, carpentry, and safe power tool operation.  Excellent oral and written communication skills.  Demonstrated ability to interact collegially and effectively with a variety of constituencies.  Preferred qualifications include applicable professional experience and demonstrated organizational skills; demonstrated excellence in college teaching; welding skill.

Primary responsibilities for the position include teaching undergraduate courses (Introduction to Theatre, Stagecraft, Scene Design, Lighting, and Play Production for Secondary Schools), and directing the technical aspects of the program.  Collaborative skills and expertise in set design, lighting, sound, and props are preferred. Some work in evenings and weekends is required.  This position requires the capability to climb ladders and lift up to 50 pounds.

Scenic Designer

Scenic Designer/Assistant or Associate Professor of Theatre:
North Dakota State University seeks a collaborative designer, and outstanding teacher, for a full-time, tenure-track theatre position, beginning August 2009.
Required qualifications:  Terminal degree (typically MFA or Ph.D.) in theatre design or a related field; demonstrated excellence and versatility as a scenic designer; expert knowledge of digital drafting and portfolio software; excellent oral and written communication skills; proven ability to interact collegially and effectively with a variety of constituencies; and evidence of teaching effectiveness. 
Qualifications preferred but not required:  Professional design experience, film or TV experience, university teaching experience, and a secondary area of expertise such as lighting or sound design. 
Position Description:  Responsibilities will include teaching and team-teaching Technical Theatre Seminar, Introduction to Design, Drawing for the Theatre and the four semester sequence of Design Studio, and possible other courses depending on expertise and departmental need; designing and mentoring student designers for departmental productions; typical research/creative and service activities; and assuming a leadership role in the expansion of the department’s design program.

TCU Department of Theatre invites applications for a dynamic teacher of acting and voice, and a skilled director for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Theatre, specializing in Acting and Voice for the Actor.  The TCU undergraduate theatre program offers the BFA and BA degrees in a liberal arts curriculum and seeks a collaborative colleague who is an outstanding classroom teacher and director.  Position begins August, 2009.  Qualifications: Terminal degree (MFA or Ph.D), or significant professional experience, required.  Minimum of 3-5 years university teaching experience preferred. Design/Technical Direction

Northwestern College

Faculty position in Theatre Design/Technical Direction
Northwestern College invites applications for a tenure-track theatre designer, professor of design and technical director beginning August 2009.

Who are we looking for?
We long for a creative and good-humored colleague to join our ensemble of artists passionate to serve our culture and Excited to integrate Christian faith into the theatre.  We need a great designer who is also an excellent teacher. You’ll teach the following courses over a two year rotation: introduction to design, stagecraft, scene design and costume design. Each year, you’ll produce one of the design elements (scenery, costumes, lighting or sound) for two or three shows. With the assistance of a scene shop foreman, you’ll also serve as technical director for our season.
What qualifications are necessary?
You must have a terminal degree (M.F.A. or Ph.D.) or be well on the way toward completion. Design and scenic construction experience are crucial. You must be a committed Christian, active in a local church.
