Assistant Direct for the Faculty Directing Showcase:

For students who seek an early experience in the art and craft of directing.   Student directors must submit an application with supporting materials in advance. Students will work closely with select faculty directors as they prepare a scene for the Faculty Directing Showcase during Festival 40. Students must submit an application with all required supporting materials by December 1 in order to be considered for this opportunity. 

Criteria:

.         Assist a director from another Region V institution in preparing a 5 minute scene for the Faculty Directing Showcase.

  1. .      Communicate with faculty director prior to the festival
  2. .      Attend all rehearsals, take notes, communicate with stage manager, and observe process - other duties as assigned by director.
  3. .      Will be given assigned rehearsal space and specified hours of rehearsal with their director, cast and stage manager.
  4. .      Will participate in one workshop designed to offer new tools or techniques for working with actors.

 

Assistant Director Application Process

Selection from among the regional pool of applicants will be limited eight and candidates will be chosen from among undergraduate applicants with sufficient training and experience to merit the opportunity. A regional team will make the selections of candidates. A complete application consists of:

1 - Letter of intent explaining how you think the experience of assistant directing under a faculty director will benefit you in your studies and your career. Include name, all contact information, affiliated institution, and home faculty mentor

2 - Statement of intent to attend the entire Region V Festival held in Council Bluffs/Omaha from January 20-26, 2008, attending the requisite meetings, rehearsals and workshops throughout the week.

3 - Letter of support detailing your potential as a director from a faculty mentor at your home institution and department.

4 - A resume that focuses on your training and experience in theatre.

5 - A completed on-line application form.
